Buying guide
Position the solar panel where it gets direct sunlight for most of the day. Twelve metres covers a long fence or wraps a medium tree well. Avoid stretching the string too tightly; let it drape for the best effect. Wipe the panel occasionally to keep it charging efficiently. Run the stars along the balcony railing for a festive look from the street.
How it compares
Plain round bulbs are everywhere. The star shapes give your outdoor space a distinctly Christmas look, and solar power means no extension cables running out of the house and nothing added to your electricity bill. Strung along the fence, the 100 stars make your compound look like a starry Christmas night.
