This two litre stainless steel thermos is the one that goes out with you: on a long drive upcountry, to a site or a stall, to a school sports day where hot tea at 4pm matters. Vacuum insulation between two steel walls means what you poured in the morning is still properly hot in the afternoon, and the steel body takes the knocks of being carried around.

Buying guide
If the flask travels in a car or a bag, keep the lid seated firmly and carry it upright — no flask lid is a guarantee against a bag full of tea. Rinse it out the same day, especially with milky tea, and leave it open to dry so the inside does not hold odours. For one person's daily coffee, a 500ml vacuum mug is easier to carry than two litres.
How it compares
Against a plastic-bodied flask, steel keeps temperature longer and does not scratch into crevices that stay smelly. Against a glass-lined thermos, nothing breaks when it is knocked over in a boot. Against carrying several travel mugs, one 2 litre flask serves a group from a single pour point.
