A string of fairy lights is the simplest way to make home feel like Christmas. These 5M battery-operated fairy lights with 50 lights wrap around the Christmas tree, drape across a shelf or fill a glass jar with a warm, twinkling glow.
Because they run on batteries, there is no need to be near a socket and no trailing cables across the room, which means you can decorate the dining table, a staircase or the kids' bedroom anywhere you like. Affordable and cheerful, they also make a great small gift or stocking filler this festive season.

Buying guide
Five metres suits a small to medium tree, a mantel or a doorway; buy two strings for a bigger tree. Keep spare batteries ready for the festive season and switch off when you go to bed to make them last longer. Coil loosely after the holidays to avoid tangles. Wind them through garlands or along the curtain rail for a soft glow in the sitting room.
How it compares
Plug-in lights only go where the socket is. These battery fairy lights go anywhere, from the centre of the Christmas table to inside a gift box, giving you far more freedom to decorate. Tuck a string into a glass jar and you have an instant festive night light.
