A 60cm plush teddy bear in pink or red — large enough to have presence, which is what makes it a gift rather than a trinket. Soft high-pile plush throughout, so it works as something to hug and as a piece of soft furnishing on a bed, a reading chair or a sofa corner.

Buying guide
At 60cm this is the size that photographs well and fills a chair, so it works as a Valentine's or birthday gift where a small toy would look like an afterthought. Keep it out of direct sun, which fades plush unevenly, and surface clean it rather than machine washing — large plush takes days to dry properly.
How it compares
Against a small plush toy, 60cm has real presence as a present. Against flowers, it lasts. Against a cushion, it does the same softening job in a room with considerably more character.
