Wash sherpa on a cool gentle cycle without fabric softener, which coats the fibres and permanently flattens the pile that does the insulating. Air dry rather than using high heat, which can mat synthetic pile irreversibly. Shake it out after washing to restore loft — that step alone makes a noticeable difference to warmth. Wash it separately from towels, since fleece attracts lint. A king-size blanket needs a machine with capacity for it; an overloaded drum will not rinse detergent out properly, which is what leaves fleece feeling stiff.
