Measure each shelf and cut with sharp scissors in one pass; a scored, jagged edge curls up and collects crumbs. Clean and fully dry the shelf before laying the liner, since anything trapped underneath will stay there. Lift and rinse the liner every few months rather than wiping it in place, which is how spills get pushed to the edges. In a fridge, liners make the shelf glass far quicker to clean but should be lifted regularly to stop moisture sitting underneath. Buy a little more than you measured — you will find other places for it once the first shelf is done, especially under the sink and in cutlery drawers.
