This is a heavy-duty black metal over-the-door hanger with six ball-tipped hooks that adds instant storage to any bedroom, bathroom or entrance door without drilling. A stylish wave-shaped frame links the hooks, so it looks like a deliberate design piece rather than a utility rack. The round tips on each hook stop knitwear and bag straps from snagging, and the sturdy metal takes the weight of coats, handbags, hats, towels and keys. Because it simply hooks over the top of the door, it is ideal for rented homes, students and anyone who moves often. In a busy Kenyan household it gives jackets, school bags and gym kit a fixed home behind the door, freeing chairs and beds from the daily pile.

Buying guide
Check your door before buying: the brackets sit across the top edge, so the door needs a little clearance at the frame to close smoothly. Hang the heaviest items, such as coats and full bags, near the brackets at either end and lighter items in the middle so the rack stays level. Black suits dark wooden doors and modern interiors and hides scuffs better than white. To stop it knocking when the door swings, stick a small felt pad behind the bottom bar. A quick wipe with a dry cloth keeps the finish clean.
How it compares
Compared with adhesive hooks, this holds noticeably more weight and will not peel off the door. Against wall-mounted coat racks, there is no drilling and it moves with you. The wave design also looks better on show than the flat strip racks usually sold for the same job, so it earns its place on a visible door.
