Honeycomb Textured Concrete Planters - Indoor and Outdoor Plant Pots in 3 Sizes — WIMU Kitchen Nairobi

Honeycomb Textured Concrete...

Concrete is the material serious plant displays are built on, and weight is the reason. A tall plant in a light plastic pot tips the first time someone brushes past; a concrete planter simply does not move, which means you can put a substantial fig, palm or snake plant in one and stop worrying about it. That stability is worth more than any styling feature. The raised honeycomb texture around the upper band is the styling, and it works because shallow relief catches light — a plain cylinder reads as raw, while a patterned band reads as designed. Concrete is also genuinely suited to indoor and outdoor use, unaffected by sun where plastic goes brittle and fades. Three sizes, from a 24.5cm small to a 48cm large, so you can group them.

Buying guide

Weight is both the reason to buy concrete and the thing to plan for. Decide the final position before you fill and plant it, because a planted concrete pot is genuinely heavy to move — and on a balcony or an upper floor, check the load is sensible. Use a plant caddy or castors underneath if you will need to move it for cleaning. Sizes are worth thinking about together: the three group well on a patio or either side of a door, with the large taking a small tree and the small suiting herbs or a succulent. Two practical points about concrete: it is porous, so on a wooden floor or a good rug use a saucer or feet to stop moisture marking the surface beneath, and check whether the planter has a drainage hole, since a plant sitting in water will rot regardless of how good the pot looks. If there is no hole, plant into a plastic liner pot and lift it out to water.

How it compares

Against plastic planters, concrete holds a tall plant securely instead of tipping, and does not fade or go brittle in sun. Compared with ceramic pots, concrete is heavier and more robust outdoors where glazed ceramic can crack in temperature swings. Against a woven basket planter, concrete suits wet conditions and outdoor use. Against a lightweight fibreglass planter, concrete is far more stable but much harder to move.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose concrete?
Weight. A tall plant in a light pot tips when someone brushes past; a concrete planter does not move. It also handles sun and rain where plastic fades and goes brittle.

Which size should I pick?
The 48cm large takes a small tree or a substantial fig, the 35cm medium suits most house plants, and the 24.5cm small works for herbs or succulents. The three group well together.

Does it have drainage?
Check before planting. A plant sitting in water will rot regardless of the pot — if there is no drainage hole, plant into a plastic liner pot and lift it out to water.
