A flower-patterned mug with honey tea bags, packaged as a gift. It is the small, warm sort of present that works when jewellery would be too much and a card too little — a get-well gift, a thank-you to a colleague, a house present. And unlike most gifts, it gets used the next morning.

Buying guide
Hand wash the mug rather than putting it through a dishwasher, which fades printed designs over time. It is a modest-sized gift by design, so pair it with flowers or chocolates if the occasion needs more weight. Check the tea is still well within date if the set has been in a cupboard.
How it compares
Against a mug alone, the tea makes it a complete gift rather than kitchenware. Against a hamper, it is proportionate for a colleague or a neighbour. Against flowers, it lasts and gets used daily.
