Buying guide
Pitch with a slope. A tarp set perfectly flat collects water in the middle and will eventually pool and collapse, so always drop one corner or one edge so rain runs off. Drive stakes at roughly 45 degrees away from the shelter and tension the ropes evenly — a slack tarp flaps, and flapping is what tears fabric and pulls stakes. In wind, lower the poles and pitch closer to the ground. Dry the tarp fully before packing; storing it damp causes mildew that permanently marks and weakens the material. Count the stakes back into the bag every time.
