A modern rectangular wall lantern in metal and clear glass, with an E27 holder. Clear glass and a rectangular frame put this at the contemporary end of outdoor lighting: light goes out unobstructed rather than diffused, so it lights the ground and the path properly instead of producing a soft glow on the wall.

Buying guide
Clear glass means the bulb is visible, so choose a bulb you are happy to look at — a filament-style LED looks far better here than a bare white capsule. Fit it at head height or above so the light spreads. Have it installed on an outdoor-rated circuit and clean the glass twice a year.
How it compares
Against a frosted fitting, clear glass is brighter and more directional, and shows the bulb. Against a classic lantern, the rectangular frame suits modern architecture. Against a floodlight, it lights an entrance without dazzling anyone arriving.
