Post-top lighting is what you install when a wall light will never be enough. The Philips BPC010 at 3000 lumens from 18W mounts on top of a pole to light a compound, a parking area, a pathway or a public space from above — and lighting from height is what produces even coverage instead of bright pools with dark gaps between them. It is rated for a 25,000-hour lifespan, which at dusk-to-dawn operation is many years of service, and offers 730/740/765 colour temperature options so you can match warm light for a residential compound or cooler light for a commercial or security setting. Running entirely on solar, it needs no supply cable to the pole — which is precisely the cost that makes conventional post lighting expensive to install.

Buying guide
Post-top fittings are sized by the area and the mounting height, and 3000 lumens is the entry point of this range — right for a residential compound, a short access road, a car park of a few bays, or a park path. Two practical decisions matter more than the lumen figure. First, colour temperature: 730 is warm and suits residential and hospitality settings, while 765 is cool and suits security and commercial areas, where it reads as brighter and renders detail more sharply on camera. Second, pole height and spacing: too tall and the light thins out, too short and you get pools. As a rule, spacing roughly three to four times the mounting height gives even coverage. Because it is solar, the panel needs unobstructed midday sun — avoid siting poles under trees, which is the single most common cause of disappointing solar post-top installations. Clean panels annually at minimum.
How it compares
Against the 4000 and 5000-lumen BPC010 models, this is the smallest of the three and suits smaller compounds or closer pole spacing. Compared with the Nysil security wall light at 850 lumens, this is an order of magnitude more light and mounts on a pole rather than a wall. Against the BRC010 and BRP-series streetlights, those are directional street fittings for roads, where a post-top spreads light around the pole for open areas. Against mains post-top lighting, no supply cable to trench, which is usually the dominant installation cost.
Frequently asked questions
How large an area will 3000 lumens cover?
It suits a residential compound, a short access road, a small car park or a park path. For larger open areas, step up to the 4000 or 5000-lumen versions.
Which colour temperature should I choose?
730 is warm and suits residential and hospitality settings. 765 is cool, reads as brighter, and suits security and commercial areas — it also renders detail more sharply on camera.
How far apart should poles be?
Roughly three to four times the mounting height gives even coverage. And keep poles clear of trees — a shaded panel is the most common cause of disappointing solar post-top installations.
