This is a quilted waterproof mattress protector that fits over your mattress like a fitted sheet and shields it from spills, sweat, bedwetting and stains. A waterproof layer stops liquid soaking into the foam, while the soft quilted top adds a comfortable, cushioned feel under your bedsheet. It is available for the most common Kenyan bed sizes: 4x6 (122 x 200 cm), 5x6 (152 x 200 cm) and 6x6 (183 x 204 cm). The elasticated, fitted skirt hugs the mattress so it stays in place through the night. Mattresses are expensive and almost impossible to clean once stained, so a protector is one of the best value buys for any bedroom, especially with young children, pets or elderly family members. It is equally suited to homes, hotels, Airbnbs and hospitals. Colours include white, beige, navy blue, grey, cream and khaki, depending on size.

Buying guide
Measure your mattress width and length and pick the matching size: 4x6 for 122 x 200 cm, 5x6 for 152 x 200 cm and 6x6 for 183 x 204 cm. Check the mattress depth too, since very thick or pillow-top mattresses need a deep fit. Colours differ by size, so confirm your colour when ordering. Place the protector directly on the mattress, then your bedsheet on top. Wash on a gentle cycle in cool or warm water, never hot, and avoid bleach and ironing, which damage the waterproof layer. Dry in the shade. Having two protectors means one is always ready while the other is in the wash.
How it compares
Compared with a plain plastic mackintosh, a quilted protector is far more comfortable, quieter and breathes better, so you do not sleep hot. Compared with no protection at all, it adds years to a mattress by keeping out sweat and spills. For heavy incontinence care, a full zip-around mackintosh gives more complete coverage.
