Sanford 2-in-1 Blender 600W with Mill Attachment and 1.6L Jar - SF6839BR — WIMU Kitchen Nairobi

Sanford 2-in-1 Blender 600W...

Six hundred watts is where a blender stops struggling. The Sanford SF6839BR is the most powerful of the 2-in-1 blenders here, and that extra power is what gets you through ice, frozen fruit, hard carrots and thick soups without the motor whining and the mixture sitting in a lump above the blades. Its 1.6-litre jar is also the largest of the three, enough for a family jug of juice or smoothie in one go rather than two. The separate mill attachment handles dry work — spices, coffee, nuts, grains — which a blending jar does badly, and having it included saves a second appliance. Two speed settings keep operation simple. If you blend most days and want it to cope with whatever you put in, this is the one in the range to buy.

Buying guide

Wattage is what determines whether a blender copes or complains. At 350 to 400W a blender manages soft fruit and liquids; at 600W it handles ice, frozen fruit, hard vegetables and thick mixtures without stalling, which is why the extra power is worth paying for if you make smoothies with ice or blend soups. Jar size is the second consideration, and 1.6 litres serves a family in one batch. The mill is not optional in a Kenyan kitchen — spices, coffee and dry grains all need it, and a blending jar cannot do that job. Practical care: never put boiling liquid straight into a sealed jar, since pressure builds and lids blow; add liquid before solids so the blades can start moving; pulse rather than running continuously for chunky textures; and never run the mill with anything wet. Wash immediately, and never run the motor for long unbroken periods.

How it compares

Against the 400W SF6820BR, that offers 10 speed settings and a copper motor at lower power, while this has 600W and the largest jar. Compared with the 350W SF6803BR, this is nearly double the power. Against the 4-in-1 juicer blender, that adds juicing and mincing functions. Against a mixer grinder, those are purpose-built for heavy grinding while this is a blender first. Against a stick blender, a jug blender handles volume and ice properly.

Frequently asked questions

Will it crush ice?
At 600W it handles ice, frozen fruit and hard vegetables far better than the 350 to 400W models, which tend to stall on them.

What is the mill for?
Dry work — spices, coffee, nuts and grains — which a blending jar does badly. Never put anything wet in the mill.

Can I blend hot soup?
Let it cool first. Boiling liquid in a sealed jar builds pressure, which is the usual cause of lids blowing off.
