A six-piece silk-finish duvet set — smooth, cool to the touch and reflective under bedroom light. Six pieces dresses the whole bed at once, which is what you want for a guest suite or a bridal room where the bed is the entire focus of the space rather than just somewhere to sleep.

Buying guide
Wash cool and gently — heat and hard spinning dull the sheen permanently, which is the one way these sets get spoiled. Silk-finish fabric is slippery, so tuck deeply and expect to straighten the bed more often than with cotton. For a bed used every night by a hot sleeper, keep cotton and save this for the guest room.
How it compares
Against cotton, a silk finish looks far more luxurious and breathes less. Against cotton sateen, this has more sheen and needs gentler laundering. Against a three-piece set, six pieces cover the whole bed for a finished look.
