This oil-proof kitchen cooking apron keeps your clothes clean while you fry, bake or wash up, and gives you somewhere to wipe your hands instead of reaching for the nearest tea towel. It is adult-sized for both men and women, with an adjustable neck strap and waist ties so it fits comfortably over work clothes or a weekend T-shirt. A wide front pocket holds a phone, recipe card or kitchen thermometer. The classic pin-stripe pattern comes in different colours, including blue, green and red, so each member of the family can have their own. Ideal for anyone who cooks before heading out in the morning and cannot afford a splash of oil on a shirt, for home bakers, and for small food businesses and cafés that want a neat, matching look. It also makes a simple, practical gift for a new home or a keen cook.

Buying guide
Adjust the neck strap so the top of the apron sits at chest height and the pocket falls at the waist, then tie the waist straps at the back or bring them round to tie in front. If more than one person cooks at home, choose different colours so everyone knows which is theirs. Wipe small splashes off straight away with a damp cloth; for a full clean, hand-wash in cool water with mild detergent and hang to dry rather than tumble drying. Avoid bleach, which can fade the stripes. Keep a spare for messy jobs like frying fish or making chapati dough.
How it compares
Compared with cooking in your everyday clothes or tucking a towel into your waistband, an apron with a bib protects your chest as well as your lap, and the oil-proof finish stops splashes soaking through. Compared with thin disposable aprons, it is reusable, more comfortable and looks smarter in a home or café kitchen.
