Decorative throw pillow covers — the cheapest, fastest change you can make to a room. Keep the inserts you already own, slip on new covers, and a sofa that looked tired looks intentional again. The whole exercise takes five minutes and the old covers fold flat in a drawer for when you want the room back the way it was.

Buying guide
Measure your inserts first — a cover the same size as the insert looks full, and anything larger sags. Group two or three rather than four identical covers, which reads like a showroom. Wash covers with like colours the first time, then with the bedding thereafter.
How it compares
Against buying whole cushions, covers cost less and store flat. Against reupholstering or replacing a sofa, they are the cheapest possible refresh. Against throws, cushion covers change the look without adding anything to fold away at night.
