Philips LED Solar Streetlight 3400 Lumen BRP210 - 28W, 12V Operation, Cool White — WIMU Kitchen Nairobi

Philips LED Solar Streetlig...

The BRP210 is a split-system streetlight rather than an all-in-one, and that changes what it is good for. Running at 12V with a 28W LED producing 3400 lumens of cool white light, it is designed for roads, compounds, parking areas and commercial outdoor spaces — the kind of project where the panel and battery are specified and sited separately from the luminaire. That separation is its real advantage: you can put the panel where the sun is and the light where it is needed, which solves the single biggest limitation of all-in-one fittings on shaded or tree-lined sites. Twelve-volt operation also makes it straightforward to integrate with an existing solar installation or battery bank rather than treating each light as an island.

Buying guide

Decide first between all-in-one and split-system, because it is a bigger decision than brightness. All-in-one units install in minutes but fix the panel above the light, so a shaded pole is a permanently underperforming pole. A 12V split system like this lets you site the panel for sun and the luminaire for coverage, and lets you share one battery bank across several lights — which is why it suits planned projects rather than single retrofits. Efficacy here is around 121 lm/W, lower than the professional BRP710 and BRP715 lines, so size the panel and battery accordingly rather than assuming parity. Practical points: 12V wiring runs need adequate cable size over distance to avoid voltage drop, so plan runs short or thicken the cable; and mount at 4 to 6 metres for this output. If you already have a 12V solar installation, this is the fitting that plugs into it.

How it compares

Against the all-in-one BRC010 range, this separates the panel from the luminaire, which is the answer for shaded or tree-lined sites, at the cost of a more involved installation. Compared with the professional BRP710 and BRP715 lines, those are more efficient per watt and built for larger road projects. Against the BPC010 post-tops, those distribute light around a pole for open areas while this throws it directionally. Against mains street lighting, no supply cable to the grid, though a split system does need its own cabling between panel, battery and light.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the all-in-one models?
The panel and battery are separate from the luminaire, so you can put the panel where the sun is and the light where it is needed. That solves the main limitation of all-in-one fittings on shaded sites, at the cost of a more involved installation.

Can I connect it to an existing solar system?
It runs at 12V, which makes integration with an existing 12V installation or battery bank straightforward — one of the main reasons to choose a split system.

Anything to watch in the wiring?
12V runs suffer voltage drop over distance, so keep cable runs short or increase cable size accordingly.
