Six pieces of pure cotton bedding cut for the 7x8ft bed. Pure cotton is what you want against the skin on a big bed: it moves heat away instead of holding it, and it gets softer with every wash rather than going slick and pilled the way blends do after a season of hot laundering.

Buying guide
Wash before first use so the cotton softens and settles. Pure cotton creases, so line dry and smooth the sheets onto the bed while slightly damp if you want a crisp finish without ironing. Six pieces is a full bed in one order; buy a second set for daily-use beds so laundry day is never a problem.
How it compares
Against poly-cotton, pure cotton breathes better and lasts longer under hot washing, while creasing more. Against a three-piece set, six pieces cover the whole bed. Against microfibre, this is the choice for comfort rather than convenience.
