A three-piece cotton sheet set with a choice between a deep-pocket fitted sheet and a flat one. Deep pocket is the useful phrase here: mattresses have got thicker, and a standard fitted sheet simply will not reach under a pillow-top. If you have ever had a sheet corner ping off in the night, that is the problem this solves.

Buying guide
Measure your mattress depth before choosing: if it is over about 25cm, go for the deep-pocket fitted sheet or the flat one. Fitted suits restless sleepers and children; flat suits unusual mattress depths and anyone who likes a tucked bed. Wash once before use so the cotton softens.
How it compares
Against a standard fitted sheet, deep pockets actually reach under a thick mattress. Against a flat sheet, fitted needs no tucking skill. Against microfibre, cotton breathes better and takes hot washing for years.
